Project Manager
Responsibilities:
1. Provides professional project management of 1-3 complex U.S./global pharmaceutical
development projects. The incumbent has responsibility for managing the project team toward
implementation of the operational plan. The individual works with the global project leader
to ensure the organizational and project objectives are achieved.
2. Ensures that communications between the team, Line Management and/or Senior Management
are handled in an efficient, effective and timely fashion so as to ensure a "no surprises"
management environment.
3. Works with the Core Team and global project leader to prepare the development strategy
and the drug development plan, inclusive of budget and timelines. Works with Senior Management
to advise, negotiate and influence their actions and/or decisions regarding assigned projects.
4. Manages project progress on a continual basis, identifying both cross-project and
cross-functional issues, timeline issues, and budget issues. Works proactively with Line
Management and the project team to achieve timely resolution of these issues in order to
achieve approved project objectives. These activities include those that are out-sourced.
5. Facilitates the renew of U.S./global development projects with Senior Management,
makes recommendations for action and ensures appropriate follow-up by Line Management to
achieve approved program/project objectives.
6. Has good experience and knowledge regarding the U.S. drug development process and
able to use that knowledge to effectively work with the project team and functional managers.
The Project Manager should also have some international drug development experience.
7. Manages project information base for assigned projects and has responsibility for
developing and maintaining good relationships with other functions such that it will foster
positive interactions and ultimately support achieving desired project outcomes.
8. Uses previous experience and accumulated knowledge to work on broader organizational
issues in order to recommend ways that the organization can improve its operational
processes to get work done better and faster.
Candidate Requirements:
1. MS/MBA or Ph.D. with 5+ years project management experience, preferably in the
pharmaceutical industry. The lack of a post-graduate/professional degree can be compensated
for by additional years of experience in project management, the pharmaceutical industry, and
knowledge of the drug development process. There should be a component of international drug
development experience.
2. Good working knowledge of clinical operations and the regulatory process as measured by
experience with Phase II/III clinical development and IND/NDA preparations/submissions.
3. Must possess exceptional oral and written communications skills
4. Excellent leadership, diplomatic and human interaction skills
(i.e., social and organizational competency)
5. Computer literacy with basic software packages (scheduling, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics)
is also required.
